Thanks for all the congrats on the 5k :) I think it went over well :0)
Gained a pound this week. Not surprised. Just one of those weeks I suppose. But I will get back in my grove and it will start going down again. I have to make sure this actually happens. Surprise, surprise. My friends keep getting married. And I kinda want to look cute for their wedding ;) So I will be back at it again. And so far winter seems to be teasing me. It was 55 and kind of sunny today, enough for me to roll the window down while I was driving. But it was super windy so that didn't really make me happy. But I don't feel like such a chicken about running because it's supposed to be in the 40's and staying light for me to run. Whew. This might actually happen ;)
Not much to report right now. I have been so tired because I keep waking up in the middle of the night. Once again I am about to head to bed early. And I do not want to be waking up at midnight or one and not be able to fall asleep till after 3. I would like a full nights sleep. Thankyouverymuch.

Happy New Year!
2013. Wow. I for one am incredibly ready for a new year! I am ready for a fresh start for sure. The tale end of last year was just a tough one. And while I learned a lot about myself, I didn't quite accomplish my goals. It makes me rather hesitant to make goals for 2013, but I know if I don't have a goal that I won't accomplish much. I had a goal of losing 100 pounds last year and I lost 12. And I'm not going to let it take 10 more years to lose the 100+ pounds that I want to lose. So I know for sure the goal this year is to lose more than 12 pounds and keep it off :0) I know that I want to have some fitness and food goals this year. But I haven't figured out what. I know food wise my main goal this year is to actually quit eating all the foods that I am allergic to.Which sounds so easy to SAY. But not so easy to do. Cause gosh dang it. I really wanted an ice cream sundae at dinner tonight for my dessert. This no milk thing is for the birds. Or eggs. I have pretty much accepted the peanuts. Luckily I won't be going into shock if I eat them on accident. Well maybe after not eating them for almost 6 months I might. But I'm just not going to go down that route. I did have a few episodes of my throat closing up last year, but I couldn't pinpoint what it was.
So I had an idea of having a goal of running a 5k every month. But then I thought that was a little silly because after I get trained for Bloomsday I will be running more than that every time I go running. I'm still toying around with the idea. It would be interesting to see my time change over the year as I get faster. I might still do that.
I know I want to do Bloomsday in May. That's a 12k. And that's really all I have planned for this year. If something else presents itself this year that would be great :)
And I'm pretty sure I am ready for slightly warmer weather ;) Running when it's 34 and slightly snowing just isn't a whole lot of fun. But at least I still made it out there to run. Not that we are just getting into winter or anything, but I hope it stays a bit warmer for my runs. None of this 20 degree high stuff!
OH! I got a pedicure today. First time in almost a year. They hurt, but I think they might help. I might have to start doing them more often :( As much as I don't really have the money for them, I think they are going to be helpful to my feet during this whole training thing :)
Really rambling today..Not so direct with my goals, but I am going to give it some thought before I settle on them I think :0)

Wednesday weigh in week 51
Woah. I can't believe that I have been doing this for almost an entire year! And I can't believe I have gained all about about 10 pounds of my weight back. This definitely wasn't how the story played out in my head in January when I was serious and started all of this. This was going to be my year, and I was finally going to do it! Flash forward to December. My mom has had surgery 3 times this year, and I have had 3 deaths in the family since October. Less than 2 months. Um yeah. I have learned this year that I definitely live by circumstances. I have periods of doing great. Especially when I have a goal! And then life throws me a curve ball, and well, Dairy Queen becomes my new BFF. The most I lost this year was 25 pounds. So 15 has crept back on. And boy can I feel it!
And I know the things I need to do. I need to quit drinking coffee. I need to quit eating dairy. I need to quit eating wheat. I know how my body feels when I don't have these things in me. Especially when I am allergic to them. It's just so. dang. hard. To all of the sudden throw out a food you have eaten your entire life. And the staples of your diet. I mean. I tell people all of the things I am allergic to and they ask me what the heck I eat. Um yeah. Not a whole lot. And then I sneak in the foods that I shouldn't be eating. And don't even get me started on exercise. Here's the thing. When I work out. I lose weight. When I don't work out? I don't lose weight. Plain and simple. Cut and dry. Well yeah. If I could just manage to stay away from all the foods that I'm allergic to, and work out 6 times a week, I would probably have it made :)
Oh speaking of running, since I really wasn't ;) I finally just jumped ahead again to week 8 of the Couch to 5k and ran for half an hour today. Well I really didn't jump ahead because it was the week I was scheduled to do it. But I haven't ran at all in the last 2 weeks. The last day I did was week 6 day 1. And today I decided since it wasn't raining, and I really needed to get back to my running, I would just go for it. And I am such a fashion crisis when I run. It's kinda just ridiculous. Blue ear warmers, red and green shirts, black pants and black gloves. Oh and a white passport belt around my waist because that's my poor girl's running belt. (I mean, I actually thought it was genius! I had a belt, and it will hold my key, phone, and other little things. And then it wasn't all in my pockets, which my capris didn't have).
But I did my 30 minute run. And the craziest thing came out of my mouth when I was done. "Well that was kinda easy!" uh yeah. Well the first mile was 19:09 and the second mile was 19:03. I apparently did really good on my breathing because I wasn't out of breath, and completely wheezing or anything like that. Either that or I just plan didn't work hard enough. But I did realize that when I run my virtual 5k for Katie's 31st birthday next month that I will have to pick up a little speed. I'm thinking I was stupid when I said I wanted to finish it in under 48 minutes I think. I'm pretty sure I forgot I was back up to a 19 minute mile and not an 17 minute one. Hmmm...How am I going to do it that fast? If I go the pace I ran today it will still take me almost an hour to run 3.1 miles.I definitely need to drop some pounds so my time will speed up :0)
I was expecting to be panting when I started my 5 minutes of cooling down..but nope. I was fine. I miss running. Of course we are getting into the cold part of winter. I don't have a treadmill. I can't afford a gym. So I am just heading outside. OH and my knee didn't hurt while I was running! That was nice. When I started my little training plan it kept twinging while I was running, and it didn't do that today. I was a happy girl.
Ok, I could just blab blab blab..so I am going to get my lunch ready for work tomorrow and head to bed. But here is my picture. of my gain. Next week will be different.

Wednesday Weigh in Week 36
This week I held steady. I'm kind of impressed. I'm really just glad I didn't gain anything. Haha. It's just hard ok. I mean I really want to find something to blame. But I know the truth. I'm still eating foods that my body doesn't agree with and I'm still not working out. Those two things will cause me to not lose weight. And those are things that I know. The sad thing is once you fall out of the habit of working out it gets so much harder to start. But I know I have to. The weather is starting to cool off again so it's not going to be so hot after school to go running. I feel like I am going to have to start over completely with the Couch to 5k. Hopefully not. I know I'm probably going to need to start out with some more walking and running intervals. But really what I need to do is just start it. I had my running stuff packed yesterday and I was gonna go for a run until I realized I left my belt and my headphones at the house instead of my car. And I was already short on time, so I just came home instead. Little things like that.
So yeah. I gotta bust a move. Literally. :0)

Hottest day of the year and I decide to run!
Yep. That about sums me up today! LOL! Hey it was a scheduled run! I'm not going just because its 90. Now that's I've done it I might very well change my mind hehe..But. Off I went. Even after a transformer blew somewhere around the school and we were out of power for 3 hours. No seriously. Do you know how hard it is to make preschoolers go to the bathroom where there are no lights? It was a (kind of) hilarious day with no lights. And then I went running.
I was trying out the garmin today! I was definitely excited to compare the two and see how close they were and they were only about .04 off of each other. And no I didn't really go trying to PR in 90 degree weather. I was just trying to finish! It was really funny. I had just been thinking to myself about how irritating it was for the people on the bike to not tell me that they were passing me. Now just because I have headphones in doesn't mean I can't hear you say "to your left" or something like that so I know you are there right before you whizz past me. I'm pretty sure it's what the sign says when you come into the park. Let the slower people (aka me!) know that you are coming up on them so you don't scare the bejeebee's out of them! So this one guy passed me rather unexpectedly. But he yelled "Keep it up!" at me. And totally made me smile. I was almost to 1.5 miles and ready to stop, but I kept going. Then almost to 2 miles these other people were like"Good job, way to go!". It made me smile.
But I did stop right after two miles. Well I started walking. And you know what. I walked the whole third mile. And I was absolutely ok with it. It was so stinking hot. I didn't want to overheat myself and pass out on a trial with no one around. So I made the decision to do what was best for me. And that was to walk. I did about two more spurts of running, but my body was pretty clear it was done running for the day. And I still ended up with about a 17 minute average :)
So my two thoughts for the day are: Random encouragement is fun :) Be nice to crazy people running in the park. They might need a way to go, or a smile from you. And two: I gotta start planning different running times in the summer. I don't plan on running too many more 90 degree runs.
And now I am off to try to catch some of this lightning that I hear the thunder rumbling from. It's getting close, so I better get the computer off!

Once again..
It was one of those days. I'm so glad it's "Friday" and the kids don't come tomorrow. I mean we only had them 3 days this week and two out of three were just crazy! But we seriously are on the downward stretch of school. June will be here before we know it and these next 3ish months will fly by.
So it was FINALLY nice enough to go outside for my run today :) So back to the track I went. I don't know what I am gonna do when the kids start track and take over the track after school. :) I kinda view it as a safe place to run, even if I am running around in circles. It's by a main road and it's not blocked and people can see me. Not like I am running between parks and you have no idea who is around. I know, crazy weird thoughts. But I think those things when I run by myself ya know?
Running outside is much easier than running on the treadmill. Except now I really need to figure out my running stride so I can enter it into my fitbit. Because once again today I crossed two miles as I was finishing up week 5 day 2 (although this day on the app was messed up), but when I got home my fitbit had recorded 2.65 miles. And that was before it fell off of my pants and sat on the ground for almost a whole lap around the track. I was slightly irritated. But very glad that I was at least in an enclosed area and I knew I would be able to find it. Those things cost 100.00 and I really don't have the money to buy a new one. I need new shoes first!
So at any rate the fitbit says my pace was around a 16 minute mile when in reality it was closer to a 20 minute mile which is normal for me. So I ended up running slower today than last week when I did it in the 37 minutes. It's just kind of weird to be running at different paces? You think I would run the same all the time right? I don't know. Just seems weird to me.
I did notice however, that after my run when I was stretching, it was much easier to lift my leg up behind me. I was pretty much touching my behind with the top of my shoe. Which was surprising to me that I could do that. I have been kind of watching my body change, and I think after an almost 20 pound loss, I can say that I am noticing some differences. Which is a big motivator to keep going for sure.

What else are Saturday's for?
I always have the best intentions of updating the blog early..but that doesn't seem to happen too often :) Except on Wednesdays when I am just so excited to show you my picture of the scale!
Today I had every good intention of cleaning my house for the bridal shower that I am having here next weekend for my friend whose wedding I am in. Ok. Well really the MAIN goal was to get the Christmas Tree out of the living room! Yeah. We have become one of those people. Who leave the tree up forever. I mean really. We are just really good at pushing things off till the last minute. Like how much time do I have until I absolutely have to do this? kind of people. So since we didn't want a tree in the living room next Saturday, today was the day. And I am happy to report that it is now downstairs in the storage room with the rest of the Christmas decorations. And the rest of the house is still a mess. Don't you hate that? I got parts of each room cleaned that I needed to. So I guess I can't say it was an utter failure? Just that I would have liked to have gotten more done than I did.
Because.
I had to do my Couch to 5K training. Happy to say I finished up week 2 today. And I ran outside at the track at the middle school. And it was cold! I think it was around 32 degrees? I started off cold. I only wore one layer. I knew I was going to warm up soon enough. So I got started. I began to realize that I am starting to get farther when I run. Now this in fact might be only in my little head, BUT, nonetheless I can make it walking around the track in 5 minutes. So when I made it about 3/4 of the way around the track jogging I got a little inwardly excited. And last time I ran at the track. I did 1.5 miles. This time I added a 5 minute run/walk session and finished 1.75 miles. I actually just went around the track one more time and finished off the two miles. My fitbit said that I did 2.5 miles. I played around with it today to try to set my stride. So hopefully next weekend when I run at the track it will be a little more accurate? I might have to do some more playing with it. I was really excited when I looked at it today and it told me I did 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. It came out to an almost 16 minute mile. But I knew it wasn't true since I had counted the laps at the track for 2 miles. But still. I did good :)
I am already trying to find ways to be running outside more. I think it's going to be staying lighter enough for me to actually go and run at the track right after work. Part of me feels bad because I told my grandparents I would be coming and using their treadmill. But the other part of me wants to be outside! I run faster. I was able to do 2 miles in 40 minutes. Now I know that doesn't seem like a big accomplishment to some. But it is to me. Since having my knee surgery a couple years ago, I haven't quite been able to get back to a 20 minute mile. I look forward to shaving some more time off my mile. And I know it will happen as I lose more weight.
I never thought I would be one to like, let alone secretly love running. I already had fleeting thoughts the other day on a day I wasn't scheduled to run that I should go for a run because the weather was nice :)
What's your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?

2014. A year without the scale defining who I am. A year of finishing what I start.
