Day one of gluten and dairy free

Whoah...I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

I'd say today was pretty successful. Minus 2 bowls of fritos and lay's potato chips to tide me over while food was cooking I'd say I did pretty good. Ok..I had a soda too...but it was only 8 oz ;) But I never said anything about giving up soda did I? Oh no I didn't. That's because I probably can count the number on both my hand on how often I drink it. Well this year? I'm 2 for 2. Haha..I normally don't keep it in the house and the had the cute little 8 oz A&W cans...really the only soda I will choose to drink. So I split it up with ice 2 times and thoroughly enjoyed it :)

I discovered that I can easily wait too long to make food. Especially since it's more real foods..I have to take the time to cook it. Which today meant 45 minutes for some brown rice and later over an hour to bake my potato. Because in my little world potatoes don't get cooked in the microwave ;) And so with trying to take the time to make the food I feel into the oh-my-gosh I am starving and ate a handful of chips before lunch and then again for a snack before dinner. I'll get something figured out..so I won't be starving by the time I eat.

So let's see. Today I had coffee, a banana, some fritos,  a salad with brown rice and a can of chicken (like tuna), then some lays, some applesauce, a baked potato, and a chicken breast, and a can of soda. NO dairy and NO gluten! SO in that way it was quite a successful day. I just need to learn to restructure it a little more and add some healthier choices in. All in all I didn't do horrible. I know for sure that I am not going to be putting food in that I don't love. I'm here to live my life, not hate my food. The goal is to come up with some new foods that I might learn to like, but I'm not throwing everything in all at once. I looked at my plate at dinner and thought it could have used a vegetable, but I was eating an hour past everyone else and wasn't going to make a whole can of green beans for myself ;)  Like I said. I'm getting there :0)

So I know that meal planning is going to be a must for me now. I can't just go rummaging around the kitchen trying to find something to eat. Because at that point it's not going to be gluten or dairy free if I'm trying to eat out of convenience. And that defeats the purpose.

I'm also going to have to be sure that I am watching my salt intake. I noticed that I salted my salad as well as the chicken having a lot of salt. And then of course the chips, and then later I made sure not to salt my potato, even though I wanted it because I felt like I had too much for the day. It's all about finding the balance.

So today was off to a good start :) Now on to tomorrow!

Wednesday Weigh in week 102

Boy I am ready for a new week haha! I think it comes with not actually working a whole lot during the month of November..and then going to 3 straight weeks of kids every day. It's a little tiring. Then you throw in life and school and church and all that. Let's just say I stayed in bed until 6:30 this am and that's reaaaaaaallly pushing it. I was so warm and cozy in my bed however. I looked at my phone and I'm just not a big fan of this 10 degrees and feels like 2. We finally had indoor recess today. Simply because even at 25 degrees it's no fun for a preschooler to go outside. So we did indoor stuff.

Not gonna lie..the first couple times I weighed myself today I didn't want to take a picture. But I finally got it to say 247.8 haha...twice. So that's what I'm going with. Some day my brain will register that I want to be skinny more than I want coffee. Or sodium. Yep. That's what I'm gonna go with.

Other than that I don't have too much to report this week. I'm super busy, so I'm super tired. I'm gonna take some melatonin and go to bed early tonight...something I keep saying I'm going to do and then don't actually do...But it's a goal...I'm going to be in bed very very soon :0)

Wednesday weigh in week 101

Well that was an interesting week! I felt very encouraged by the feedback that I got from some people on my post. I haven't posted my updates on facebook in a while, really because I haven't really been losing weight, and while yes, I still post....I just know it will only be a few people that read it. Yet I still get on here every Wednesday and post haha!!

Let's see. I got up early on Saturday and got all ready for my water aerobics class and got to the gym for them to tell me that the pool had flooded and classes had been cancelled until they got it fixed. Of course I got lots of good ribbing...um how does a pool flood? But I'm still proud of the fact that I got myself up and got to the gym..whether or not I got a workout in. And no I didn't have any other workout gear with me...I was in my swimsuit and flip flops...so I went home and showered and got on with my busy day ;) I mean I wasn't too horribly mad. I'm just getting myself into the routine of actually getting up and getting myself there...and I think it will all fall into place. I had to pretend to study for my test that I took this morning.

Sunday we had a Thanksgiving meal with our church after service..That's always fun :) I'm not to keen on potlucks because I don't really know what's in the things that people make and whether or not I'm allergic, but I did get some turkey and rice and jello and a roll.

Monday night I finally sat down and looked at the study guide for my college assessment test. I promptly freaked out and had all sorts of anxiety, pulling out my eyelashes and eyebrows and wanting to eat everything in sight. People. Math is just never going to be my friend. Don't ask me to do geometry or trig..It's just not going to happen.

Tuesday night I did my Final Presentation in my Early Childhood Education class. Well actually I had to do 2 presentations haha..but the little one I wasn't too worried about. The lesson I learned was that I need to follow up when I send something to the Teacher to print. Needless to say our songs are going to be passed out next week...;) Now I just have to finish up my songbook to turn in next week and I am officially done with my first quarter as a college student!

Which leads me to today: My dreaded COMPASS test, haha...I mean lets be real here...I graduated in 1999. So that means I really haven't done math since oh 1997? No seriously. I barely got through Algebra. And probably with a C or something..I mean I really don't remember. But somewhere along the road of life, I dumped math out and put music in. I mean that's what everyone does right? So this pretest stuff had me so worried..I slept like crap last night..But made it to my test and even got it! (I was a walk in, so people had to not show up for me to do the test). Needless to say I came out of the test with a college level in Reading and Writing. And I got into Math 84. Which is not college level ;) But the Math class that I needed to make it into. Luckily I have friends that are good at math..and we will probably be setting up some tutoring dates in the near future when I get into my Math class...I'm hoping it will be offered over the summer...that would be a good time while I'm not working to be able to do that...anyways..I'm so glad it's over with and now I can get registered for some more ECE classes...after I fill out my FASFA again and get some financial aid! Cause I can't pay for college myself! Haha!!

I'm still hovering right around the same weight..I'm suspecting it's the sodium and milk. I got pretty busy last week and only got one workout in. And this week, well I'm just not going to be doing any workouts in the pool...and that's all I'm gonna say about that. But I'm super glad the pool is back up and I will be in class for sure on Monday night...not so sure about Saturday.

I do know that Thanksgiving is not super tempting for me..Never really has been. Let's see..I will eat turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and some jello. Well I did buy a dulche de leche cheesecake thing to make..That just might put me over the edge! Haha..but I've never been into all the sides and stuff..I don't even like gravy! I'm not a big overeater on Thanksgiving..I don't even like pumpkin pie! And I'm not big on fruit pies either. And once the peanut butter and chocolate went away, well what do you know...Christmas is another story however...I will devour those almond bark covered pretzels like nobody's business..

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Wednesday Weigh in week 75

75 weeks. That's all it took for me to gain all my weight back. grr. Yep. The weigh in that didn't happen last week was just a sign of what was to come this morning. But who am I kidding. With the move and not having time to make my lunches, combined with eating out EVERY day this month. I'm pretty sure I did. Sodium up the roof? And oh ya know two coffees a day. I'm not surprised at this gain at all. My survival mode kicked in and it wasn't nice. I'm really looking forward to summer where I can stay home and make lunches and no eat at DQ every day. I mean. I'm getting pretty sick of ice cream right now. And that right there folks is an amazing statement for me to say.

I could throw the towel in. I could delete my blog, and just convince myself that I will always be fat and things won't change and live my life this way, hating myself for the weight and just being miserable.

But I have always believed that by finishing what I start with my weight loss that it will transpire over into every area of my life. Even by moving, I am just downsizing so so much. I told my aunt the other day that if it doesn't have a significant meaning in my life and its not on display somewhere in my house then I am not keeping it. I mean obviously there are just some things that I have to keep for taxes, but a lot of stuff I just don't need. Along with getting my weight under control this summer, I am going to be organizing and downsizing more stuff. I have gotten good about getting rid of things, but for some reason I hang on to paper items forever. And that's my goal in the 11 weeks that I am off, is going through tubs of things that I don't want to be holding onto, and high kicking my butt back to where it should be. I know I should be happy now but I am not. I can't be. I won't ever be happy knowing that I am still almost 130 pounds overweight.

That's my vent. I know I won't be putting it off forever, and even if I can just find one thing to change by next week, I would be doing better. I've got two more weeks to get everything out of the other house. And then I get to actually enjoy my new house instead of trying to cram as much in as possible ;)

Wednesday weigh in Week 68

So as I was eating dinner last night, realizing that I was weighing in today I decided that it wasn't my most brilliant idea to eat so much sodium yesterday. And yep. Up on the scale. Go figure. Not surprised at all this morning...

So I am trying something new. It's called a soy latte. ;) I finally bought some soy milk to try to make a latte at home with it. I have tried just about every other kind of milk to try to make them with so I'm not drinking cows milk. I have just been rather hesitant about drinking soy. But I decided I was spending too much money (and calories) at the coffee shop and I just really needed to make my coffee at home again. Since I obviously haven't given it up. I did however go back to decaf. I have determined that too much caffeine will make my heart hurt. Like it's just tight. So I have switched to decaf. And hope that will help. Well lo and behold my first latte wasn't horrible. It didn't change the flavor of the drink too much. Not to mention it has less calories than milk but that was never really the issue. Except when I was buying an iced coffee at the coffee house and getting more than half a cup a day :0) But it still makes a decent cup of coffee for the girl allergic to milk. And now that I am making it at home again I will be saving a lot of calories. Good grief, I don't need all that syrup. Especially when I have good coffee ;) Like Stumptown. I have gone back down to about 3-4 teaspoons of syrup instead of 3-5 pumps. At any rate it works :) And maybe I will get used to it. I still don't think I would drink a cup of soy milk by itself..but for coffee...not the worst thing in the world.

Wednesday Weigh in Week 52

Wow. A whole year. I always seem to end the year quite frustrated with myself because I never lose the weight that I wanted to. And this year is no different. Looking at a year, I managed to keep off 12.6 pounds. Which all in all I suppose is good. But I had lost 25. Blah Blah Blah. I try to not beat myself up mentally over it. So that's where the end of my year is at. ;) I have no idea why my body chooses to hold on to weight the way it does. Part of it could have been sodium. Because literally all week from Thursday to Tuesday my weight was 226.6. I mean that was almost down 3 pounds, and then it jumped back up a little bit this morning, but I had a lot of salt yesterday. And because I've been working on presents, and just having a lot to do this time of year, I haven't worked out since last Wednesday. I will definitely be getting back to that soon. I just have to get these presents made and wrapped :0) And the wind to stop. I will not be running in super crazy wind.

We are in high Christmas mode at my house! We barely got our tree up, I have no idea where our stockings are, and we are frantically trying to finish up all the presents we are making. It really amuses me when I tell people that we generally will make all of our gifts to our family. Like it's a totally crazy thing? Do you make your family their presents? I mean with my immediate family, it's usually a bought gift. But with my family that all gets together at my grandma's house on Christmas it's a homemade thing. And we are usually all like that. I have just accepted the fact that I live in a family of gift givers. Part of my family for years has tried to get us to draw names for gifts. It's just not gonna happen! Haha..We have got something pretty cool up our sleeves this year. But I'm not telling...5 more days to go!! I'm thinking Christmas might be one of the few days I actually make it to bed before midnight. If I don't go crashing a bit tonight. I still have one more part of a present that I need to get done tonight, and then I will be hitting the bed. And seeing if my body will even let me fall asleep before then.

We had a HUGE windstorm here on Monday in the very early hours. Our cities lost hundreds of trees. Like literally, we lost ours in the front yard, it fell over on my sisters car. Luckily it was a Willow, so the branches weren't all that heavy. It didn't come completely out of the ground, but the roots are tilted and exposed, meaning it's gonna have to be cut down :( And we had 3 houses across the street that all lost at least a tree apiece. One I think lost 3 or 4. So that was 6-8 trees just on my block. Several areas were without power for up to a day. We had 78 mph gusts where I live and the top of one of our mountains hit over 100 mph. It was crazy to lay there and "try" to sleep. At that point I was just praying that the tree right next to my bedroom didn't come crashing down on me! So it was a tiring day to say the least.

Question: Should I still keep track of my wednesday weigh in's next year like week 53, week 54? Or do you think that's a little much?

Have a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy your families, Enjoy the treats. Take the time to remember your ones that aren't with you, and make some new memories with the ones that are

Wednesday Weigh in Week 34 ( On Tuesday :o) )

Oh look! It's Tuesday and I am doing my Wednesday Weigh in ;) I will be out of town tomorrow on my way to Redding, California to visit a friend for her birthday. I'm very excited to get out of town right before I have to head back to school next week. I am driving by myself for a 11ish hour trip so it will definitely be an adventure! Haha. I'm looking forward to it actually. I am leaving this afternoon and will be making a stop in Oregon before heading down all the way tomorrow. It's been a year since I have seen my friend and I can't wait.

So that's why I'm weighing in a day early. Only up .6 pound. I figured it would happen since my dinner last night consisted of carmel corn and cashews. That was a huge mistake. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to be careful with the cashews. Something was setting my throat off last night. Not that I haven't been eating the best for the last week. But I've been seeing cold like symptoms with a slight sore throat and cough and this time I know it's food related. Plus a bad headache last night. But we were also surrounded by little wildfires and I could literally almost see ash hazing all over the town last night. It was so hazy and I smelled like a campfire when I came home. Craziness.

So I'm off for the week. Can't wait to see my friend, go to a concert, go to church and just hang. In the 105+ weather. Haha. Can't seem to get away from it!

Wednesday Weigh in Week 25

So I'm pretty sure my scale hates me. LOL! Either that or I ate too much salt the last night. Which is quite possible. Note to self: Never eat at IHOP again. How 2 eggs, hash browns and toast can equal 1080 calories without the bacon beats me? Add an extra 80 for the bacon. But I skipped the toast. But it was still close to 1000 calorie meal. Gotta be the butter? I mean that's the first time I have eaten there in years! But I do like to get breakfast from Denny's. So it's probably the same thing. Sigh. Dang!

So I have done pretty good the last two days about being GF/sugar free/yeast free. I decided for the moment to keep at least the cheese right now simply because of protein. I know it adds some fat in my diet, but I have to get that protein in! I had some applesauce tonight. It's homemade and I was craving it. So I pulled it out of the freezer. When I make it this year I am going to try it with way less sugar and see how the difference is :) Or maybe none at all and just put the cinnamon in. Hmm. Choices :0)

Ok, so I had found a kettlebell workout that my sister had bought and I decided to do it tonight, since I didn't get a workout in before the boys woke up this morning. (Um yeah. these boys need to learn to sleep in pronto! 6:30 on summer break is just not OK!) Oh my gosh! For one thing. It's like all squats!

Have I mentioned I hate squats? Ok. Well I don't do them very well. Especially after a leg and a knee surgery. But I did the 30 minute workout the best I could. I then went to Sparkpeople to input my calories that I burned. (I also did 15 minutes each on the airofit and the bike.) Well when I searched for it I was very shocked to find out that a 30 minute kettlebell training burns 600 calories. Holy Crap! And then I ended up burning over 400 more on the bike and airofit! Um that was an unintentional 1000 calorie burn day. I had no idea that it burned that many calories LOL! I might have picked it up a long time ago if I had known that! I mean it's not something that I will do every day by any means, because like I said. I. Hate. Squats. 30 minutes and my legs were JELLO! But I will probably throw it in once a week, every once in a while or so ;) Just to throw off my body.

So I've gotten back to counting calories and working out. Bring it on Summer. I've got big plans for you :-) Except for the week I am getting my wisdom teeth out. :( Not looking forward to that. But at the same time I am ready to get it over with. So I'm just gonna go with it. And enjoy a week of soup, and pudding right? :0)

Wednesday Weigh in week 13

These are those days where you go really? Why didn't I pay better attention yesterday to my salt intake, or did I really get enough water in. I am still fighting off being sick, so I haven't been the best girl in the world. But yesterday the scale said 217.6 and of course today it didn't like me.

Granted its .04 less than last week, so I will definitely take it. It's just irritating to see that the one day a week I want it to show a good number it goes up, and most likely tomorrow it will be back at 217.

The joys of losing weight :)

I also haven't worked out since Saturday when I finished my c25k course. Yesterday I made it back to work and one of my co-workers was gone. Today I would love to stay home again because I'm not 100%, but I don't know if she is going to be at work, and I can't leave the teacher with two subs in the classroom. So off to get ready to work I go.

Hopefully eating less salt :0)
2014. A year without the scale defining who I am. A year of finishing what I start.
